If you don’t know us we are Alison and Ray Canham. We were married in September 2015 after first meeting at a friend’s camping trip in 2011. A mutual love of music and the outdoors brought us together and we haven’t looked back since. Downwardly Mobile is a book about living life on the road. In fact it is the story of what happened when we tested our 6 month old marriage by resigning from good jobs, selling our home and choosing instead to live in a space smaller than most bathrooms, cook on two gas rings, sleep with our noses a few inches from the ceiling and rarely have hot running water. |
On our journey we worked at music festivals where we played kazoos with a biker gang, appeared onstage with an 80's pop legend and took on the challenge of working at a large Christian festival with unexpected results,
We watched the seasons change, felt the peace of total silence under the stars, walked over hills, up mountains, down dales and spent quite a bit of time swearing at Audi drivers. During our travels Ray kept a blog that to his great surprise attracted a loyal and growing following. Downwardly Mobile is the book of the blog of the journey. It's a witty and honest account of a summer spent discovering the country and looking for somewhere to call home. |
